Simple {Harvest} Chair Cover

A couple months ago I was at the fruit stand and asked the lady if I could buy a potato sack with out potatoes.  She said no.  I was bummed and almost bought a bunch of potatoes so I could have a bag or two. ;)  Well a while later Mr. Husband was at the same stand and must have used his mad negotiating skills because guess what he came home with?!  What a sweet man.  Even though he totally doesn’t understand why in the world I would want these, he was kind enough to persuade the said fruit stand lady to relinquish one of her precious sacks.

As soon as he brought it home, I knew I loved it, but I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with it. Sometimes being paralyzed by possibilities is a problem for me, but as I hung it over the back of the chair, it hit me…

Here is my Harvest version, but you could totally change it out for  all the seasons.  Or even stencil numbers on for everyday decor.  All I did was slip it over and tie some ribbon around with my foxtails.  I wrapped the ends of the foxtails with jute twine to cover the raw edges.  Done and done. SO easy.

Do you love?  I do!

 

You might be saying, ‘well that’s great Krista, you have ONE chair cover’.  But, no worries!  I found more online for cheap!  You can find them HERE and you won’t even have to deal with stingy fruit stand ladies.   Although, I am thinking of doing a kind deed  & bringing some to her.  Maybe she does have a shortage. ?

Anyway, I am going to order me some and maybe some cute coffee bags as well.  I have another idea in mind for them that I will share with you soon.

One Year Old…A Thank You…& A New Look!

Well, my little blog is a year old this week. 

It is has been a fun year of learning and growing and much more.  I went into this blindly not knowing much about blogging at all.  I didn’t even subscribe to blogs before I started mine!  I am so grateful for all of you who humor me by reading my blog and leaving such wonderfully sweet comments.  It is fun to have some fuel to drive my passion and to share my creations with people who can appreciate a good bargain and a great transformation!  It is a great creative outlet for me, which helps keep me sane. (I use the term sane very loosely)  If I can inspire a few of you along the way to create a warm and inviting home for you and your family…even better!! That is the goal. :)

 I have also learned so much from other blogs.  There is so much great  inspiration and encouragement out there and I am grateful for the blog friends I have encountered along the way.

One thing I have learned is to stay true to myself.  It is hard to not compare ourselves to others.  One of my favorite quotes is by Judy Garland… "Always be a first rate version of yourself, instead of a second rate version of someone else.”  Love this.  It’s so true.   If I am not my authentic self then no one else ever will be…only one of me will ever exist.

So if you keep reading my rambling posts, and probably confusing tips and tutorials… I will keep writing them!  ~I may even keep writing them even if you don’t read them.  I will just pretend you all tried to comment but there was some sort of Blogger error that didn’t allow you too. ;)~

I didn’t quite accomplish all I wanted in this first year, but that is OK.  I have some new ideas for my blog and things I would like to do in the future.

Easy as {Pumpkin} Pie Thanksgiving Sign

 I found a little black wood sign at the thrift store a while back.  It said “princess” or something on it. It was $0.50.  Not bad. 

I simply printed out this image from The Graphics Fairy onto my sticker sheet and stuck it right over top of the previous wording. 

I put a antiquing medium over the top and sanded it a bit and then attached some jute twine with some upholstery tacks to give the option of hanging it.  I sanded the edges of the sticker a bit to give it an even more aged appearance…

 and that was it!

A super easy and quick {and cheap!} little Thanksgiving accent.

{Thankful} Harvest Wreath

Have you recovered from Halloween yet?  I barely have…it took me quite some time to take down my Haunted House fun! 

Does it seem like Thanksgiving totally gets overlooked?  It is so important to remember daily all that we are grateful for, but not always easy.  Getting in the thankful spirit of the month is sure to help right?  I am excited for Christmas, don’t get me wrong, but trying to enjoy the now.

I am going to soak up this last bit of fall…

Enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Enjoy my kids, husband and Family.

And remember all that I have to be grateful for.

And just in case you need some inspiration to get your home all harvest-y and thankful, here is one of my Autumn wreaths I made,

with a Thanksgiving feel.

  

It has a grapevine base and a mix of greens including magnolia & tea leaves.

For a pop of color some fall leaves and my favorite hops which loosely hang as if they grew right out of the wreath.

Filled in with tiny green blossoms and not to forget the fun gourds which give it that harvest bounty feel.

Hanging from beautiful brown ribbon for the finishing touch. 

One of the reasons I love creating fall wreaths is because of all the elements you can mix in.  Look outside and take inspiration from nature.  See how even totally different colors and textures mix in beautifully and make such a pretty picture.

My {HAUNTED} House

Happy Halloween Everyone! Holy moly, this has been a whirlwind of a month and because of it my blog has been so very neglected!  Between a week in Newport Beach with the fam, an amazing, wonderful trip down the east coast with Mr. Husband and then two Halloween parties this week, October has flown by!  Since I haven’t been blogging about all the Halloween projects I wanted to, today I will give you a quick tour of my Haunted house. ;)

 

I don’t know if you saw the sign in the BH&G’s Halloween mag, but here is my very humble version.  I really loved but I am A. not a master woodworker, nor B. an artist.  For my little sign I used wood that my uncle gave us for  our fire pit and simple nailed the pieces together…no cutting.  I then tried to copy the pattern, but I couldn’t get it to transfer on the wood so I had to somewhat free hand it…considering all that I think it turned out pretty cute.

Our spooky entrance to greet our ghoulish guests.  I hung my hauntingly cheap   $ store wreath on the front door and my girls strung spider webs around.

   

Inside we have a few more fun fall/Halloween displays.  Had I been around more this month I would have done more, but these few touches helped set the tone.

My spooky Halloween mantel is compiled completely from the dollar store and thrift store creations.  Also here is my little thrift store Halloween chandy that I got for $5 and spray painted.  I de-electrified it and hung it from a string.  It would be fun with candles but I didn’t have any electric ones and the fire hazard thing always concerns me with real candles and small children. Safety first.

  

 

And probably my favorite part….

 

My Witch’s Potion Station! 

I have seen these before, but I totally was inspired by Polish the Stars potion jars.  Check out hers and she also tells where to get the amazing labels.  I got most the labels from Love Manor, some I made myself.  I found random bottles from the thrift store, food items and here and there. 

I was dressed as a witch and I had so much fun putting this together!  Mr. Husband thinks a little too much fun… bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahaha ;)

I made my spell books by just making my spells, printing them out on sticker paper and putting them in a thrift store book.  Same with the outer cover.

I know my kids and I had fun with this, and I hope my guests did as well.

A few more details….

I also had a fun food and treats and gifts and games.  Since I have been such a bad blogger this month, I didn’t get pictures of the actual festivities, nor details of how I did it… but I hope you get the general idea and it gets you in the mood for some Halloween fun today!
