{Moss Trees} A “Post” From Christmas Past

IMG_0362

I hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving and are recovering from the massive amounts of food ingested…I am assuming that I am not alone in my overindulgent Thanksgiving feasting.;)

So who is ready for some Christmas Decor?!

I had to have a little surgery this week so I am a bit behind in the new-Christmas- project–posting-area, so I’ve decided to bring back a few from last year.  Since I was brand new to blogging last year, I am thinking most of you haven’t seen these.  These are my moss trees from last year.  I have a little tutorial on them and some different ways to display them, etc.  I hope you like ‘em!

Check it out HERE.

Again, please pardon my novice blogging and pics from last year…just hoping to give you a little decorating inspiration

My wish if that you are able to continue your Thanksgiving weekend in the way you enjoy it best.  Whether it be Christmas decorating, movie watching, shopping, being outdoors, or just hanging out with the ones you love…enjoy:)

Remember my Christmas Wreath Giveaway ends Monday!

Christmas Swag

IMG_0243

It is snowy and wintery here so I’m in the mood for some holiday decor!  I wanted to share with you this custom order I just made for a sweet client, to maybe inspire your holiday decorating and give you a few tips to create your own.

IMG_0239

She has a few of my wreaths, but thought it would be fun for to change it up and have a swag for her front door. Swags are a great alternative for front door decor. This has a traditional look with the apples, berries and  few different types of pinecones nestled in the luscious pine.

 IMG_0240

I started with a basic pine base and mixed in a few different varieties of pine sprigs to give it a fuller look with lots of texture and dimension. *Be sure to ‘fluff’ out and arrange the pine to give it the desired shape.

IMG_0244

For the finishing touch, I added a thick ribbon bow that cascades down the length of the swag.  It gives it a more formal look and pulls out the color in the berries and fruit.  *If you want to add ribbon a little tip is to make sure you have enough that you can loop it out and then attach it onto the spine of the swag with wire. This gives it that billowing effect.

I hope this gives you some tips and ideas for your front door decor.

Happy Holiday Decorating!!

My Favorite Things

I am linking up over at 320 Sycamore for her Favorite Things Party.  As I thought through this I found I have lots of favorites!  So I tried and narrowed down a few that I am loving right now….

DSCN3098

Making memories with my girls.  They are at such fun ages and I know these days are fast and few!  Trying to enjoy every bit.  Aren’t they cute? ;)

These Garnier Nutri-Pure cleansing cloths.  I really like these at night to take my make up off.  I am lazy and most nights hate to wash my face, so these are quick and make me feel like I did something at least.  They leave my skin feeling soft and clean. :) I am out of them though…dang it.

My sweet addiction.  I tell myself that they are only around for a short while, so it would be a shame if I didn’t get as many as I can before they are gone. Perfect logic, right? Oh, and I am pretty sure they are calorie free.

Permanent fixtures on my feet.  LOVE my cozy sweater UGGs.  Sweet Mr. Husband hunted them down for me a few Christmas’ ago.  I think I need a new pair so I can at least alternate them. (subtle hint)

Sunday nights with my man and Dexter.  I love our cozy Sunday night time on the couch.  And Dexter is our fave!

Getting cozy by my fireplace.  This is not mine, but I couldn’t find a picture of mine on.  And it is coziest when it’s on. ;)

Holiday magazines.  I love diving in and gathering inspiration and ideas.  While sitting by my fireplace.  Drinking my latte.  Wearing my UGGs.  Yeah, that is pretty much what I do all day long these days. …haha ;)

Working on custom Christmas orders for my wonderful clients and customers.  My favorite creative outlet and it gets me in the mood for the holidays!  Hey, I can do laundry in January. ;)

Easy Winter Centerpiece Update

IMG_0099

I’ve been doing a little preparation for my Christmas decor and one thing I love to do is reuse or repurpose decorations that I have either bought on super clearance or ones that I have simply fallen 0ut of love with.

IMG_0076

So enter this little tree trio I bought on super clearance for like 5 bucks.  I like the shape, it was sturdy and I liked the look of the realistic look of the pines.

IMG_0080 IMG_0082

So, I used my paint sample to to cover most of the base.  I wasn’t feeling the green and black spongy look.  I wanted it to have a sort of rough aged appearance so I just slopped it on, dry brushing even some areas.

Next I taped of my new color and spray painted the legs with my Oil Rubbed Bronze.  It was not optimal spray painting weather, but a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do.  Right?

IMG_0100

For another element and texture, I glued just twine around the top and added in pinecones I collected out of my Mom’s yard.  And street. My kids think I am nuts because I had gathered some in the yard, but as we left I saw a bunch in the road and of course I pulled over and rescued them.  It was very windy. And raining.  The kids were screaming, “Mom, get out of the street!” It was very dramatic! ;) The danger I put myself in sometimes for free beautiful decor. Sigh.

IMG_0098

And there you have it!

IMG_0104

Oh and I want to take a minute to share the importance of fluffing your faux pine.  Whether it is your wreaths, trees…whatever, it is important to pull out and arrange the stems of the pine.  Makes a HUGE difference.

IMG_0076 IMG_0101

Now, let’s see a side by side just to show what a big difference you can make with a small amount of time and little or no $.  Pretty cool, huh?

So get out your decor and see what needs a little sprucing up.  You might be surprised what you can do with a few little changes.

{Handmade} Christmas Kissing Ball

I’ve decided to revisit a few Christmas tutorials from last year, since most of you probably haven’t seen them.  I had just started blogging, so I apologize for the ~not so great~ photos. Hopefully I have improved a little over the year. ;)

IMG_0261

I love making these Christmas Kissing Balls…I have a full tutorial so you can get the step by step instructions.  Just click on the picture or HERE.  They are pretty fun and simple to make.  They would make great friend or neighbor gifts…or even hostess gifts for your holiday parties.

*I will also be listing some in the next couple days in my Etsy Shop.

How many of you have Christmas decor up yet?  I am trying to hold off…remember me enjoying the season?  Well it’s beginning to get cold here and looking a lot like Christmas, which is making it difficult.;)  I am doing a little Christmas ‘preparation’, but I still have my Thanksgiving/Fall decor up.:)
