BOO! Platter for a Buck

This is super easy…

You’ve probably seen a variation of this before.  I bought a plastic patter for a dollar.  Next I typed out the word boo and then hit the mirror image button on my program.  Printed it out on a full page sticker and then stuck in on the bottom of my platter so on the top it said boo correctly.

    

I then spray painted the bottom of the platter black and let it dry.  My initial intent was to remove the letters so it was clear, which looks good too, but for now left the white stickers on.  I might try remove the stickers and stick some scrapbook paper in the back so it shows through the clear words…lots of fun options with a project like this.  Nothing too ingenious or spectacular, but I do enjoy the end result.

 

Haha.. After I finished this  little project I ran around my house hiding behind corners and jumping out in front of my kids and Mr. Husband and holding up the platter and screaming BOO! …yes I am weird.

Spooky Halloween Wreath Bling

 

I added some Halloween flair to my yard trimmings wreath and it instantly took on a festive feel.  All I did was randomly stick my $ store skeleton garland in it, almost as if the little guys crawled right up there by themselves…oooh creepy! I just scared myself! ;)

Fall Trimmings~FREE Home Decor

Around this time of year most of us do a fall cleanup in our yards, right?  Maybe?  Even if you don’t the plants start to change and usually die or fall off anywhere, so why not embrace their beauty in every stage?  So beyond twigs and leaves, look at the other foliage and see how it dries out.

  

These are my pretty bushes.  If this was a gardening blog I might be able to tell you the type, but it’s not, and I can’t. ;)  I have quite a few around my yard and it the summer they have a pretty little purple flower on them, but I even love how they are drying out,  so I snipped a few off and brought them indoors for a  beautiful accent.

{$3} Haunting Halloween Wreath

   

I’ve been slowly getting ready for my little Halloween Party and I’ve been trying to keep the costs down, so the dollar store has been my friend. I made this wreath for $3 with stuff I had and 3 dollar store items.

I made a loose wreath base with grapevine from my Grandpa’s garden wanting it to look more aged and  rustic.  Next I spray painted old ferns and berries and stuck them in with some Spanish moss I had on hand. 

The creepy tombstone and the skull garland are form the dollar store.  I glazed them a little to darken the white.  Nested on the Spanish moss is a little $ store crow and my Haunted Wreath was complete.

  I wanted this wreath to look old and unintentional, like it had been abandoned and transformed throughout the years.  I may add in some spiders, but for now…

I think it will do the trick to set the tone for my Ghoulish Guests.

   

The Room We {never} Dine In

 

I realized there are quite a few rooms in my home that I haven’t shared with you.  So I am going to start today by showing you our formal dining room.     

 

The dining set was my Great Grandmothers and I feel so lucky to have it.  You know I love sentimental items and I think it is beautiful.   The table has another leaf and total of 6 chairs so when I do need more table space I have it.

To add a touch of fall I hung the straw wreaths on both sides of the hutch with ribbon and put some {free} pinecones on my cake stand I made.

        

Even though we rarely eat in this room I walk by it 100 times a day and it makes me smile.  As are most rooms in my home, this is still a work in progress.  I would like a rug to ground the table and although I think the light is beautiful, I sometimes feel like it is too heavy for the table.  But that is the fun of it right? Constantly tweaking things and changing things up is what I do. ;)

What makes me love this room even more is that everything in here was either given to me, found at a garage sale/thrift store or on purchased at super duper clearance prices.  (i.e. my $3.99 curtains!)

Pumpkin Books

 

I received some nice comments about the little pumpkin book stackers I made for the mantel at my Mom’s salon. {Thank You!}  They are just a variation of all the fun ideas using books in your decor.  I have always loved using books in my decorating and have recently being seeing the covers off and I love it. 

The talented Miss Mustard Seed (love her!) did it HERE and like she said, it is a great alternative if you can’t find books with beautiful covers.  I have quite a few on my own I have collected, but for this display I need to find some quick.  I found a few that worked, painted one and ripped the covers off of a few. 

Another very talented lady at My Sweet Savannah(love her too!), inspired me HERE with her gorgeous flower topped books.  I simply tied on my little pumpkins, stuck in a leaf and there you go…

A super easy, inexpensive and quick way to add to your fall {or everyday} decor.
