Mini Skull Vase Fillers {a pb knock off}

IMG_1840

I know it is a little early for Halloween, but I am hosting a party this year so I have been working on a few projects to get ready.  I don’t know if you saw the Mini Skull Vase Fillers in the PB catalog, but I quite liked them.  So you can only imagine my excitement when I found these skulls at the dollar store!

I got a pack of like 8-10 for $1.  They were a little smaller and brighter than the PB ones, but very similar.  To tone down the whiteness I put the skulls, along with some brown acrylic paint and a little water in a Ziploc baggy.  I mixed them around and moved them about so they were coated with the paint and then let them dry on a paper towel. So very easy.

I simply placed them in an apothecary jar with Spanish moss and finished it off with a rustic tag I stamped.  Who’d ever guess it only set me back a couple bucks?  And did you check out the price on PB’s?  Mmm Hm.

Thank you Pottery Barn.  Thank you dollar store.  Happy Halloween. ;)

  7. Looks great! I did a knock off of their canvas skull print: http://www.polishthestars.com/2010/08/pb-skull-print-knockoff.html It's ridiculous how much they are charging for stuff that you will only have out for a few weeks out of the year!

  12. I LOVE IT! I used skulls last year for Halloween decor too... with a few PB inspired crows (found at craft store for a fraction of PB's) and bats silhouettes I made from MarthaStewarts templates. I posted pics today at RateMySpace - and to my surprise some people thought it was too creepy even for Halloween! lol I like yours with the added moss. Happy to have found you from a Fall Festival link party post...

  21. Can I copy this? I hope you show us more! Awesome gothic glamour. I picked up a lovely crow from the dollar store, named her Matilda and put her out front.
    Now I have a new excuse to head back and look for sculls and moss.

  23. This is so funny! I was linking my similar project when I spotted yours! I saw the same PB arrangement and remebered those $tree skulls. I think I may find a jar like yours to use the rest of my skulls and fill in my mantle. Heres the link to mine if you'd like to see: http://through-my-is.blogspot.com/2010/10/fall-fun-pottery-barn-look-alike.html
